Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency, a site with video content and blogs analyzing the portrayals of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a website for education that examines the role of women in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. Determined to challenge the assumptions of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she also tries on issues related to the targeted harassment of women and the other minorities of online environment. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO, TEDxWomen and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the university. An ambitious woman set out to develop a web-series to study how gender is represented in games. However, she found herself as the victim of an internet harassment campaign. The attack did not stop her from pursuing the project, and instead reinforced her commitment to be a feminist critic of media. To honor the numerous accomplishments she's made to feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency An educational nonprofit that investigates female representations of pop culture.
